Save Your Sweater!

saveyoursweater

We are more than half way through sweater season and I don’t know about you but some of my sweaters that were new, soft and cozy in September are looking a little sad. Pilling, pulling, over washing and fading have reduced some of my new favorite sweaters to tired and old.

This inspired me to ask around and do research on how to care for sweaters correctly and save them from mid-season destruction.

1) Washing- Make sure you follow the recommended washing instructions! Some even just wash all knit sweaters by hand even if the tag saying it can be machine washed, just to be safe. After washing your sweater lay flat to dry. The weight of the water can stretch out your sweater and make it look misshaped.

2) Storing- Try to avoid hanging your sweaters. If you have a really heavy knit they might be fine on a hanger but really fine knit sweaters will get marks from your hangers that are close to impossible to get ride of. So fold your sweaters and stack them nice and neat in your closet!

3) Pilling and Pulling- Use a pumice stone, razor blade, brush, or tape to get ride of pilling. If you get a pull in your sweater use a sewing or knitting needle, depending how tightly woven your sweater is, and hook the pull from the inside and pull it back into the sweater.

If you’re more of the outdoorsy type and these negative degree temps mean ice skating then lace up your skates and slide into this cute outfit. Fleece lined leggings will keep you warm but allow you flexibility to do all kinds of twirls around the rink! Then layer up with a cozy fur trim hoodie in a stand out color.

If you’re more of a fireside chick and all you want to do is cuddle up by a fire with hot chocolate and a good book. Bundle up in soft cardigans and big scarves and cozy up your toes in some furry boots. Then close your eyes and dream of Bermuda!

The air is getting crisper, the days are getting shorter and its getting close to that time where all you want to do is stay inside, cuddle and drink hot cacao! But before you start your winter hibernation go outside and enjoy the fall weather! The leaves are just staring to turn and everyone is getting excited about cider donuts and apple picking. Take the family to a local farm and pick up some apples for a pie, go on a hay ride, or get lost in a corn maze! Or if you don’t live where leaves change get away for the weekend and take in beautiful orange and red covered hills. Go on a hike and find a nice spot to drink hot cider and take in the views!

For all these wonderful fall activities you will of course need the perfect outfit!

Dark denim and corduroys are the perfect fall pants; comfortable and easy to stick into some leather boots! Pair with light layers in fall inspired colors; orange, red, navy, and brown. Then layer on a fun scarf and light jacket for when the sun goes down.
